v Duration: 4 Weeks
v Class Duration: 60 Min.
Module Description:
Referred to as “tazkiyah” in the Quran and as “ihsān” in the Sunnah, this course introduces the history, theory and practice of the discipline of Islamic spirituality and speaks about its basis in the Quran and Sunnah. It looks at the formal development of this Prophetic Legacy, which focuses on purification of the heart and inner reform, and introduces its goal, objectives and practices. The course then focuses on addressing some popular misconceptions regarding this tradition. Questions addressed include:
- Are different methods of doing dhikar a bid’ah?
- What is the Islamic basis of having a spiritual Mentor (a shaykh) and should there be mediators between us and Allah Ta’ala?
- What is bay’a?
- What do the terms tazkiyah and tasawwuf mean and are they anything other than Islam?
- What about aberrant practices that lie outside the Shariah?
- Understand what is bid’ah and what is not. Differentiate between Islamic spirituality and un-islamicspirituality. Let the tradition speak for itself.
